Truth Devo Week 11 – Recognize God’s Call

Truth Devo

Every soldier in Christ’s army begins as a recruit. God calls ordinary people—like Moses, Samuel, or Peter—to extraordinary missions. At first, you may feel uncertain, inadequate, or fearful, but the call is personal: God is saying, “I want you in My army, follow Me.”

Recognize God's Call

“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” Immediately they left their nets and followed Him. – Matthew 4:18-22

Answering Jesus’ call isn’t just about action—it begins in relationship. He first invites His disciples into His presence. They spend time watching, listening, and learning His ways before stepping into the mission.

  • Hanging Out with Jesus Prepares You. Observing His teaching and actions equips you for obedience. (Mark 3:14)
  • Formation Before Mission. God shapes your character, courage, and discernment in His presence before sending you into challenges.
  • Relationship Before Assignment. Your ability to act faithfully comes from intimacy with Jesus, not just your own effort.
  • Learning by Example. Seeing Jesus handle opposition, criticism, temptation, and death teaches you how to respond in a world ruled by evil.

Being called is not about worldly power or popularity. To the world, enlisting in Jesus’ army may seem foolish, risky, or weak (1 Corinthians 1:27). Yet for those who respond, this call is the gateway to eternal impact. Answering the call begins in the quiet moments with Jesus. Only then can you step into your mission confidently, carrying His wisdom, courage, and love into the world.
