Hello, Holy Spirit Devotional Week 31 – Hello, Courage
Living in the Boldness of Perfect Courage: Trusting God’s Will When it Hurts
We often talk about courage like it’s loud or action-packed. But biblical courage is usually quiet. It’s found in prayer, in wrestling, in surrender. It’s not just about stepping into battle. It’s about trusting God when it costs you everything. Daniel showed us one kind of courage. A steady, consistent, faithful intimacy with God, even when he knew the lion’s den was waiting. That kind of courage is forged in a secret place. It isn’t showy. It’s loyal.
But there’s another level of courage. Jesus modeled it in the Garden of Gethsemane.
“Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me. Yet not My will, but Yours be done.” —Luke 22:42
Jesus knew what was ahead. Betrayal, abandonment, torment, and the full weight of the world’s sin. He was so overwhelmed in His humanity that He sweated blood (Luke 22:44). Still, He chose obedience. He chose trust. That is perfect courage. Not fearless courage. It is Spirit-led surrender that says, “Even if it costs me everything, I still say yes to You, God.”
Hello Courage!
God’s Sovereignty
Courage doesn’t come from having all the answers. It comes from knowing who is going with you. God’s command to be courageous isn’t optional. It’s a reminder that He will never leave us. His presence is the guarantee.
Rooted in Intimacy
Daniel’s courage was rooted in his relationship with God. Jesus’ courage was revealed in prayer and surrender. Ours has to be rooted in the same place. We can’t fake courage for long. We need the Spirit of Truth to anchor us.
Restoring Courage: When Surrender Looks Like Strength
Perfect courage isn’t always loud or brave-looking. It’s often found in the soft “yes” whispered when no one else is looking. It’s trusting the Father when your own will feels more comfortable. It’s letting the Holy Spirit fuel your strength when you feel empty.
If Jesus could model this kind of courage through prayer, surrender, and love, we can too. But it takes daily practice, honesty, and dependency on God.
