God and You: The Importance of Cultivating Daily Communion with God

What is the importance of having “God and you” time? God has always been interested in spending time with us. This is one of the reasons He created man and placed him in the Garden of Eden. He would always visit in the cool of the day to have communion with man. This means that daily communion with God is important to Him.

What we must realize is that this special “God and you” time is more beneficial to you than it is to God. How? Continue reading as we discuss the importance of cultivating daily communion with God.

Why Cultivate “God and You” Time Daily?

Every relationship takes some time to grow and solidify. You always need to spend a lot of time with someone you are in a relationship with for it to grow. Our relationship with God shares some similarities with other relationships in this regard. Spending “God and you” time daily is a way to grow your relationship with Him. The question is, “Why should you cultivate daily communion with God?” Here are a few reasons:

God and You
You need to have “God and You” time daily through prayer and Bible study

Essential to your existence

God is our source. Without Him, we are nothing and can do nothing. He is the very essence of our lives. Imagine a branch getting cut off from a tree trunk. Initially, the branch will look like nothing is wrong and its leaves would still be green. It is only a matter of time before the leaves begin to wilt, and the branch becomes dead. Why does this happen? Because it has been disconnected from the essence of its existence.

Just like a branch cannot exist independently of a tree, we cannot exist outside of God. Don’t let the world deceive you. You might still perform exploits for a while outside of Him, but soon the vacuum will be a gaping hole. God has placed a vacuum in man that can only be filled by Him. Without daily communion, you’d soon be looking for a way to fill that vacuum. Unfortunately, nothing and no one else can satisfy this need, except God Himself.

Knowledge of Him

When you begin a relationship with someone, you don’t know them too well. However, as you spend more time with that individual, you begin to find out more about them. They’ll keep unfolding and showing you new details about themselves.

This is the same way our relationship with God is. When you have daily “God and you” time, He begins to expose you to new realities about Himself. Gradually, you begin to see and experience God in different dimensions. He already knows you, but His desire is that you know Him far more than you already do. There’s only one way to achieve this, daily communion with God.

Transformation

When God created man, His desire was that we would be like Him on earth. However, as man fell in the garden, we lost our way, and a great chasm between who we were and who God wanted us to be was created. God has to repair the damage that was done so He sent Jesus Christ to die.

He still wants to transform you into who He desired you to be. This is why He said, “if any man be in Christ, He is a new creation.” Connecting yourself to God in daily communion transforms you. Romans 12:2 explains how this process comes about, through the renewing of your mind.

Spending time with God daily changes you to become more like Him the same way it was with the disciples. They were called Christians because they had spent so much time with Jesus, they talked and acted like Him. God transforms you into His very nature the more you spend time with Him. You don’t just become like Him in nature and attitude, you begin to achieve tremendous results like Him. This is the true essence of communion.

Conclusion

“God and you” time is one of the essential things a Christian must do daily. Engaging in this act presents you with so many blessings and benefits. God wants to influence you so much that you will become Him on earth. This is why He keeps calling to you to “come.”
