Hello, Holy Spirit Devotional Week 46 – Hello, Unity

Devotional

From Division to Divine Connection

Is one day enough? Or should unity be something that extends far beyond a single event, shaping our lives and actions every day? At GodKulture, we champion the idea of unity, something we eagerly celebrate each year during our Chicago Inter-Church Sports Competition. It’s a day filled with fellowship, joy, and collaboration, where churches come together with a shared purpose, heart, and goal: to unite in Christ. Yet, as I reflect on this event, I wrestle with a question that lingers year-round: Is the unity we experience on that one day fragile? Our time together, although meaningful, is fleeting—a single event in a year filled with so many other moments. And I wonder: Are we truly uniting in God’s divine connection, or is our unity just a once-a-year tradition?

Radical Shift: Unity Reframed

Israel’s unity was often broken by disobedience and idolatry, their hearts drifting from God, and their once firm connection growing dim. But then came Jesus, whose life and resurrection rewrote the definition of unity. It wasn’t about the law or lineage anymore, but about the deep bond of faith in Him. And so, I ask myself, and I ask you too: Is our unity truly fragile? Or are we embracing a deeper, more lasting connection in Christ, a unity that isn’t confined to one day but shapes our lives each and every day? The answer, I believe, begins with how each one of us lives out that connection, striving for unity with our neighbor, our friend, our family member, and the world. A unity that is not fleeting but everlasting, rooted in action and faith in Christ alone, where all things are made new through His resurrection.

God Wants You to Promote Unity in the Spirit

God calls us to promote unity in the Spirit, not in the flesh. This effort will require you to pick up your cross and follow Him. It’s not about creating unity based on human effort or worldly standards, but about surrendering to God’s will and allowing His Spirit to guide us in true unity. Following Christ means choosing humility, setting aside personal agendas, and embracing others with His love. This is the unity that goes beyond mere gatherings or events. It’s the unity that reflects God’s perfect will in every area of our lives.

PERSONAL REFLECTION

Reflect on areas of your life where division or misunderstanding might be present. How can you actively seek to bring unity into those spaces?

TAKE ACTION

This week, reach out to someone you may have had a disagreement or distance with, and take a step toward reconciliation. Ask God to guide your words and actions, making space for unity and peace.

Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection weren’t about creating unity for a brief moment in time. His sacrifice redefined unity for all time, no longer bound by ethnicity, borders, or rituals, but centered on faith in Christ. In that radical shift, unity was no longer fragile, but firm, built on the unshakable foundation of God’s love and grace.
