Popular Televangelist Jimmy Swaggart Passes Away At 90

Jimmy Swaggart, one of the pioneers of televangelism, has passed away at the age of 90. According to a family representative, the popular preacher died in Louisiana after two weeks in the hospital. Christian Today reports that the preacher died of a cardiac arrest.

Jimmy Swaggart, the preacher, author, and singer, was famous for his fiery preaching style. Between the 1970s and 1980s, Swaggart garnered considerable attention for his television ministry. His sermons focused on salvation, repentance, and living a holy life. 

A family representative had broken the news on Tuesday that the popular televangelist had passed away. The official Facebook announcement read thus,

Today, our hearts are heavy as we share that Brother Swaggart has finished his earthly race and entered into the presence of His Savior, Jesus Christ. He met his beloved Savior and entered the portals of glory. At the same time, we rejoice, knowing that we will see him again one day.”

The family’s statement went on to appreciate the staff at the hospital where he passed away, Baton Rouge General Medical Center, for their care and support.

Love has poured in from ministers, leaders, and well-wishers globally after the announcement of Jimmy Swaggart’s demise. Jeff Landry, the Governor of Louisiana, in a statement, said, “Rest in peace to Rev. Jimmy Swaggart. He devoted much of his life to bringing people to Christ. Our prayers go out to the Swaggart family during this difficult time.

The American President, Donald Trump, also expressed sadness at the passing of the great televangelist. He referred to Swaggart as “an incredible Man of Faith” on his Truth social platform.

According to NBC News, Jimmy Swaggart is remembered by his family, which includes his wife Frances, his son Donnie along with daughter-in-law Debbie and grandson Gabriel, his daughter Jill with granddaughter Jennifer and son-in-law Clif, his son Matt and daughter-in-law Joanna, as well as nine great-grandchildren named Sam, Ryder, Abby, Lola, Harper, Navy, Harrison, Caroline, and Mackenzie.
