Hello, Holy Spirit

Hello, Holy Spirit Devotional Week 23 – Hello, Wisdom

How is wisdom far better than jewels?

When I think about this, I’m reminded of Shirley Bassey’s iconic song, “Diamonds Are Forever.” She sings:

“I don’t need love, for what good will love do me? Diamonds never lie to me, for when love’s gone, they’ll luster on.”

It’s a witty anthem comparing the fleeting nature of love to the enduring brilliance of diamonds. But let’s flip the script. Instead of comparing love and diamonds, let’s explore the eternal value of Wisdom, specifically the Holy Spirit’s wise nature, against the fleeting treasure of jewels.

The Seven Pillars of Wisdom

Wisdom is priceless, as Proverbs 9:1 describes her “house built on seven pillars.” Here’s how these pillars demonstrate Wisdom’s superior value:

  1. Guidance:
Wisdom provides clarity in life’s complexities. It equips us to make sound decisions, unlike jewels, which cannot teach us how to manage or multiply resources.
  2. Fulfillment:
While jewels offer temporary satisfaction, Wisdom brings lasting peace and purpose. It satisfies deeper desires that transcend material wealth.
  3. Relationships:
Wisdom fosters understanding and builds meaningful connections, whereas jewels often create envy and division.
  4. Growth:
Jewels can be stolen, lost, or devalued. Wisdom, on the other hand, teaches stewardship and creates resilience, guiding us toward sustainable growth and success.
  5. Eternal Value:
Jewels are tied to this world, but Wisdom aligns us with spiritual truths that outlive material treasures. Proverbs 8:18 says, “With me are riches and honor, enduring wealth and prosperity.”
  6. Accessibility:
Jewels are limited to the wealthy, but Wisdom is available to all who seek her through experience, reflection, and divine revelation.
  7. Protection in Adversity:
Possessing jewels won’t save you in tough times, but Wisdom equips you to navigate challenges with grace and strength. Consider Joseph: through the Spirit of Wisdom, he guided Egypt through famine and became a savior to his family, even as their treasures were rendered useless.

As the saying goes, “Jewels can adorn a crown, but Wisdom makes a king.”
