Glimpse Into The Chosen’s Behind-The-Scenes Of Jesus’ Crucifixion

Jonathan Roumie, the actor who plays Jesus Christ on The Chosen, has revealed that with each passing season, his role has become more challenging. In a recent Instagram post, he posted:

There is yet more suffering to endure, not only as my character, but through my own sacrificial offering as an artist to embody and accept every ounce of pain and discomfort associated with the process of making Christ’s own suffering very real to everyone who not only participates in the production but to those who witness the finished product. I.e., YOU.

He continued by saying, “I have witnessed many members of my cast and crew emotionally leveled much in the same way I have been. The grace is that we have been lifting each other up throughout, and I couldn’t feel more blessed. What we are creating shall transcend all of us.

For Roumie, the most challenging part of shooting The Chosen has been the crucifixion. He said he had to let the Lord be with him throughout the process so that he could go through with it.

Another actor on the set, Abe Bueno-Jallad (Big James), asked for prayer support from viewers of the series. He described the shooting experience as beautifully intense and sought fortitude and an open heart as they filmed the sixth season of the show. Abe said, “If people can pray for us to keep our hearts open, because our humanity just wants to close off to this story, and it’s just so challenging to keep open, and I know that everybody is struggling, [but] we’re all unifying together to be there for one another.”

There are no words in the video of the crucifixion posted. However, one can observe the cross, Pharisees, Roman guards, stage blood makeup on an actor, and the director, Dallas Jenkins.
