Truth Devo Week 1 – Return – What is Truth?
Scripture
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” – Genesis 1:1
He stood on the precipice of time and history, fully aware and fully ready for a phenomenal project: an extension of His heavenly kingdom called earth. Before anything existed, before time was measured, before matter took form, God conceived creation in eternity.
“Let there be…”
These were not casual words, positive thinking, or wishful speech. They were words saturated with intention, released with divine power. Creation was pre-thought, pre-planned, and pre-purposed. Nothing came into existence by accident. Humanity itself was not a reaction but a decision. We were destined.
“Let there be…”
The power behind these words reveals the nature of truth. God is Spirit, and all creation flowed from the spiritual realm into the natural one. The visible world was formed by what is unseen. Truth existed before matter, before light, before form.
The spiritual realm is not imaginary or secondary. It is more real than what we can see. It is eternal, unbound by time, governed by divine order. This is where God dwells in full glory, wisdom, and power. This is where truth originates.
Before humanity, God created angels—spirit beings designed to serve His will and worship His glory. They are intelligent, emotional, and purposeful. Scripture reveals their existence and their praise. Yet even within eternity, rebellion emerged. An anointed cherub exalted himself, sought God’s throne, and led a revolt. Pride corrupted wisdom. Rebellion fractured harmony. But Satan and the fallen angels were cast down.
It is against this eternal backdrop—truth established, rebellion exposed—that God began His next work: humanity. Not as an afterthought or a replacement but as image-bearers, designed to live in truth, steward creation, and walk in communion with Him.
Truth is not simply words written on a page. Truth is who God is. It existed before creation, before conflict, before time itself. Truth does not adjust to culture or circumstance. Truth speaks, and worlds form. Truth stands, and the truth sets people free.
It’s time to Return to Truth.
Song
Prayer
God of Truth, You existed before time, and You remain unchanging forever. Open our eyes to see truth not only as information but as Your nature. Align our hearts with what is eternal, not what is temporary. Holy Spirit, lead us into all truth and ground our lives in what You have spoken. Let our decisions, faith, and identity be anchored in who You are. Amen.
Personal Reflection / Group Discussion
– Where have I treated truth as information instead of a relationship with God?
– What beliefs in my life need to be realigned with eternal truth rather than circumstance or emotion?
– How does knowing that truth existed before creation change the way I see what have become cultural norms?
Take Action
– Spend time reading Genesis 1 slowly, paying attention to what God speaks into existence.
– Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any areas where your thinking has been shaped more by the world than by truth.
– Declare aloud each day this week: God is truth, and I walk in His truth.
