New Film ‘The American Miracle’ Highlights God’s Intervention in America’s Founding

Is the United States a product of mere chance or the providence of God? The new film, The American Miracle, strongly suggests God’s divine involvement in the formation of the United States.

According to Crosswalk, the new movie, which was released on June 9, 2025, contends that America’s founding 250 years ago was a result of God’s divine guidance, not an accident. The movie takes viewers back to the Revolutionary War and the nation’s early years, when a series of events took place that were nothing short of miraculous.

The American Miracle – God’s Providence in the Founding of the United States

According to PluggedIn, in a review of the movie, America would not exist without events such as George Washington’s fortitude and subsequent immunity from smallpox, as well as the unexpected fog that enveloped the East River in New York, allowing George Washington and his troops to escape the British in the Battle of Long Island.

Another event happened on the 50th anniversary of America, which couldn’t have been a coincidence. John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, the second and third presidents, respectively, sent messages to the public in celebration of America’s 50th anniversary. Both had been political rivals, but later became friends. They were also celebrating that they were both still alive, considering that they were both the main architects of the Declaration of Independence. By the end of the same day, they had both died — that could not have been by chance.

The movie, The American Miracle, is based on the book by Michael Medved (2016) and was inspired by the author. It was directed by Tim Mahoney. Some of the cast includes Michael Medved himself as narrator, Daniel H.T. Shipley as George Washington, and James Amold Taylor as Daniel Webster.

Medved told Crosswalk Headlines, “Part of what all those Founders agreed on was the idea of divine providence – that they had a special destiny for which God had determined a path for the United States. And that – it seems to me – is one of the things that we need to recapture, sending a message that we should feel gratitude, not guilt, about our nation’s past.”

The movie was launched approximately one year prior to the nation’s 250th birthday.

Medved refers to George Washington’s 1789 inaugural address, when he acknowledged the “Invisible Hand which conducts the affairs of men.” Washington declared that “every step” of the founders and citizens “seems to have been distinguished by some token of providential agency.”

Medved said, American responsibility and purpose is “to hold up the ideals of human freedom, of human choice.”
