Devo Week 15 – Recruit – Inviting Others Into the Movement
In the military, the rifleman on the ground carries out the plan with focus and precision. The rifleman takes strategy and turns it into execution. Every role in a military unit matters: intelligence gathers information, leadership makes decisions, and logistics supplies resources. Yet the rifleman is distinct.

Obedience Meets Reality
While others operate with maps, reports, and projections, the rifleman operates in immediacy. They live in reality, not abstraction. They carry the burden of execution, adjusting on the ground when plans are imperfect and absorbing the gap between intention and outcome. Their success depends on disciplined focus under pressure, sustained through attention, repetition, and emotional mastery.
In the same way, every role in the Army of Jesus matters. Some are called to teach, others to lead, and others to intercede, support, and build. Yet in the Army of God, every believer is called to step into the role of the rifleman.
The Rifleman Moment: Choosing Obedience
Jesus tells us to “Go.”
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19–20). He did not offer a suggestion; He gave a command. He not only commanded the mission. He modeled perfect obedience.
Your “Rifleman Moment” is stepping into what God has revealed, even when you feel unprepared. Choose obedience over comfort. It is easy to remain in abstraction, saying, “I should share my faith,” “I should forgive,” or “I should be more disciplined.” However, obedience lives in the present moment, and it sounds like, “I will speak today,” “I will forgive today,” and “I will act despite my own resistance.” Resistance will come in the form of doubt, fear, discomfort, and delay. Yet, like the rifleman, you are strengthened through the Word, refined through daily obedience, and sustained by the Holy Spirit. You are not executing alone; God is working through you as you move.

Reflection Questions
In what area of your life is God calling you to move from planning or thinking into active execution?
How have you been hesitant or delaying action, and what would it look like to step forward boldly, knowing God is working through you?
What is one specific, measurable step you will take today to carry out God’s mission, even if it feels uncomfortable or uncertain?
