Truth Devo Week 31 – Rekindle – Hosting Moments of Revival

After a battle, a wise commander understands that a soldier cannot immediately return to the front line without first going through a process of recovery, restoration, and preparation. The strength of an army is not determined only by the condition of the battlefield, but by the condition of the soldiers carrying the mission. A soldier may have survived the battle, but the experience may have left physical exhaustion, emotional wounds, mental fatigue, or a weakened sense of purpose. A good commander recognizes that restoration is not a sign of weakness; it is necessary preparation for continued victory.

In the same way, revival is the restoration process led by Jesus, our Commander. It is the moment when He brings His soldiers out of the intensity of the battle and invites them into His presence to recover their strength. Like a military recovery base, God creates a place where His people can receive healing, encouragement, and renewal before returning to the mission. Revival begins with a pause. A strategic moment to rest, reflect, and reconnect with God.

During this process, the soldier examines the battle, not to focus on failure, but to gain wisdom and healing. They acknowledge the wounds, losses, challenges, and areas where they need restoration. Spiritually, revival enables believers to come before God with honesty, to surrender what has weakened them, and to allow Him to restore their hearts. Through repentance, reflection, and renewed devotion, God removes what hinders the relationship and reignites the fire within.

Jesus reminds His followers that their failures, struggles, or circumstances do not cancel their calling. Like Peter, who was restored after denying Christ, believers discover that Jesus does not discard wounded soldiers; He restores them for a greater purpose. And as the restoration process continues, the soldier’s fire is rekindled. Courage returns, commitment is renewed, and motivation is strengthened. The believer remembers who they serve, why the mission matters, and that the Commander is faithful. God does not simply return people to where they were before the battle; He uses the battle to develop greater resilience, maturity, and dependence on Him. Finally, the restored soldier receives new orders and returns to the mission. Revival is not an escape from the battlefield; it is preparation for the next assignment. Jesus renews His followers so they can carry His presence, represent His Kingdom, and serve with renewed strength and purpose.
