Hello, Holy Spirit Devotional Week 21 – Hello, Hope

Trusting God over Worry

In college, I often found myself stressing over exams, whether they were days or weeks away. While doing well in exams is important for earning a degree, I noticed that the closer the exam came, the more I lost sight of what really mattered. I became consumed by worry—about small things like paying bills on time, what to eat, or whether my effort was worth it. It may seem trivial, but when we shift our focus away from God, we can easily spiral into anxiety and self-doubt.

I realized I was relying too much on myself, forgetting that as humans, we are flawed. I was trying to control everything, even though I knew I was doing my best. That’s when I reflected: If I was giving it my all, why should I be so stressed?

At a Bible study group, I shared my worries, and someone introduced me to Matthew 6:25-34. This passage reminded me that God cares for us and provides for our needs. When I started to feel overwhelmed again, I would read this scripture, and it helped me shift my focus back to trusting God, rather than relying on my own strength.

I’ve learned that, as God’s creation, there’s no need to worry. If I’m doing my best, I can trust that God will guide me through the rest.

PERSONAL REFLECTION

Identify Areas of Anxiety: Take a moment to reflect on what areas of your life cause the most stress. Are there specific exams, responsibilities, or worries that overwhelm you? Write them down and bring them before God in prayer.

Meditate on Matthew 6:25-34: Read this passage aloud and reflect on God’s care for the birds and the lilies. How can this reminder help you trust God more fully with your worries?

Ask Yourself:

  • Am I trusting God with the things that overwhelm me?
  • What would it look like to truly give my worries to God today?
  • How can I focus on doing my best without letting stress take over?

TAKE ACTION

Today, whenever you feel anxious or overwhelmed, pause and pray. Reaffirm your trust in God’s provision, and remind yourself that doing your best is enough when you lean on His strength.
