Director Jon Erwin Hopes ‘House of David’ Draws People To The Bible

House of David

Director Jon Erwin of the hit television series House of David says he hopes the show directs Christians back to the Scriptures and inspires others, such as seekers and skeptics, to open the Bible for the first time. He says House of David is not a retelling of the Scriptures but a love letter to the Bible, a book that changes lives.

Director Jon Erwin of ‘House of David’ Hopes The Series Draws Viewers To The Scriptures

According to Crosswalk, Season Two of House of David launched on 5 October 2025 on Prime Video’s Wonder Project subscription service. The season narrates David’s path to kingship as he clashes with King Saul and strengthens his bond of friendship with Jonathan.

Jon Erwin told Crosswalk, “I love Season Two — I love it even more than Season One. It’s epic in every way.

Erwin describes the story of David as a timeless hero’s journey that appeals to both Christians and non-Christians alike, which was evident when Season One rose to number one on Prime Video.

Season Two continues where Season One left off, detailing how Israel responded to David’s victory over the Philistine giant, Goliath. Meanwhile, David contemplates how God will lead him to the throne. The romantic storyline between David and Princess Michal also continues in Season Two.

Jon Erwin says working on the series has deepened his own love for Scripture and hopes it will do the same for viewers.

If you love the Bible as I do, I hope that this story will bring a greater sense of meaning and depth to it. I know I don’t read the Psalms the same way after making the show,” Erwin said.

Erwin further emphasized that Christian entertainment is currently experiencing a renaissance of creativity and influence. He noted that this applies to House of David, The Chosen, and other projects. He pointed out that House of David is a love letter to Scripture rather than a direct retelling of Scripture.

This is art, but it’s meant to point people to the Book that’ll change their life.” — Jon Erwin.
