Hello, Holy Spirit Devotional Week 14 – Hello, Wonder
The songwriter prayed, “May we never lose our wonder. Wide-eyed and mystified, may we be just like a child, staring at the beauty of our King.”
When we think of wonder or wonderful things, we often marvel at creation instead of the Creator. Living in Chicago, I see this play out daily. Tourists flock to marvel at architectural masterpieces like the Willis Tower, captivated by its avant-garde design. Locals, too, take pride in this iconic structure. Yet when I ask, “Who designed the Willis Tower?” Silence fills the room.
By the way, the Willis Tower was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), with architects Fazlur Rahman Khan and Bruce Graham leading the project. See how quickly the focus shifts once we know the names behind the wonder?
As Christians, we often fall into this same pattern. We celebrate the miracles, signs, and wonders of the Holy Spirit, yet how well do we know the Holy Spirit Himself? The wonders are extraordinary, but how much more wonderful is the One who performs them?
The 7 Wonders of the Holy Spirit
- The Breath of Creation
The Holy Spirit is the divine animator, breathing life into creation and filling the world with purpose and vitality. (Genesis 1:2, Job 33:4) - The Gift of Revelation
Through the Holy Spirit, mysteries are unveiled, and believers are guided into all truth. He inspired Scripture and continues to illuminate hearts and minds today. (John 14:26) - The Power of Transformation
He changes lives, turning sinners into saints and empowering believers to reflect Christ in words and actions. (2 Corinthians 3:18) - The Seal of Belonging
The Holy Spirit marks us as God’s children, affirming our adoption into His family and guaranteeing our eternal inheritance. (Ephesians 1:13) - The Source of Power
He equips believers with divine strength, enabling them to do the impossible, resist darkness, and bring heaven to earth. (Acts 1:8) - The Giver of Gifts
The Holy Spirit lavishly distributes spiritual gifts – wisdom, healing, prophecy, and more – to glorify God and edify the church. (1 Corinthians 12:4) - The Comforter and Advocate
In life’s trials, He is our ever-present help, offering peace, guidance, and assurance of God’s love. (John 14:16)
The Holy Spirit is more than a source of wonders—He is Wonder itself.
