Animator Butch Hartman is the creator of hit Nickelodeon series like The Fairly OddParents and Danny Phantom, as well as T.U.F.F. Puppy and Bunsen Is a Beast. During his tenure at Nickelodeon, he earned nominations for three Daytime Emmys, four Primetime Emmys, and five Annie Awards. He also won four BMI Film and TV Awards before exiting Nickelodeon in 2018. Hartman now charts a new course with his recently launched Butch Hartman Studios, which seeks to reflect faith and spiritual values and offer hope and encouragement to young audiences in an increasingly dark cultural landscape.

Hartman’s transition into faith-centered animation and storytelling began after he left Nickelodeon in 2018, when he started projects like The Garden Cartoon, a Bible-infused children’s series. He has since doubled down on that mission with the launch of his studio, pledging to create animations that not only entertain but reflect faith and timeless Christian values.

Butch Hartman Studios is a full-service independent production studio that employs over 40 animation crew members, including artists who have previously worked on Hartman productions. Hartman’s colleague, Taylor Bradbury, is the senior producer at the company.

The studio’s first production is the second season of The Garden Cartoon, which was created by Butch and executive-produced by his wife, Julieann Hartman, through Garden Productions. The first season of the series is currently available on Angel Studios and other streaming platforms through distribution partner N Circle Entertainment. Other Garden Cartoon movies will be released during Christian holidays and will be distributed by BMG-Global, a distributor of family-friendly, faith-based films.

In Hartman’s words:
Our stories and shows are created and curated with families in mind. We’re working with some of the best animators in the business, many of whom I’ve worked with on other shows, to offer an enriching experience suitable for children of all ages. Our mandate is to provide safe entertainment that enthralls, excites, and encourages kids to set their imaginations free. My Christian faith has convinced me that in a world of almost unbearable uncertainty, the importance of fun and empowering kids’ entertainment has never been more profound.”

Observers note that Hartman’s move comes amid growing demand for family-friendly and value-based content. However, for Hartman, it seems deeply personal, his mission being to leverage decades of expertise in the service of a higher calling, which is bringing light and hope to a dark world.
