Major Film Studio Acquires Distribution Rights to Hit Bible Series ‘The Chosen’

According to CBN News, the hit Bible series “The Chosen” has gotten a new home as the production of its fourth season is in progress.

The Christian series, which was created by Dallas Jenkins, a writer, director, and producer, has sold its global distribution rights for all seasons to Lionsgate, a film studio based in Canada and America.

In a statement shared with Faithwire, the show-runner said, “Lionsgate is perfect for us. They’re strong and experienced in the areas we’re not, but they also understand what’s unique about us and will protect that. We’ll continue to do what we do best unabated, and they’ll expand our efforts with their tremendous distribution team.”

The president of Liongate’s worldwide television distribution division, Jim Packer, explained that it was no surprise that such a well-crafted story about Jesus Christ would have such a high demand considering that we have not seen anything like it before now. Packer went on to say, “The multi-season approach has allowed ‘The Chosen’ to consistently build its audience and generate a unique level of engagement. We’re excited by the opportunity to elevate this incredible property to the next level of worldwide recognition and popularity.”

About The Series’ Achievements

The show that tells the story of Jesus’ earthly ministry is the biggest crowdsourced project ever in entertainment. It has reached over 110 million viewers in 175 countries and will be translated into 600 languages.

“The Chosen” has been watched more than 500 million times since its first season and has made $35 million at the box office from theatrical releases related to the hit series.

Jenkins, who was filming season three last fall, said to CBN’s Faithwire that God’s hand in the success of “The Chosen” was “very obvious” from the beginning. He continued, “God has just so clearly from the beginning brought people to the show — cast, crew — who were compelled to do it even when they might not have wanted to. There’s just so many people involved in the show who God was putting it on their hearts.”

Jenkins said he spends time each morning before filming starts to “connect with God” to make sure his intentions are properly aligned. This follows weeks of research done with historians and theologians who carefully check the scripts of each episode to ensure they fit with the first-century culture and biblical stories.

Finally, he said, “We’re just focusing on making the best show possible and leaving the rest to God. The opportunities that are arising are amazing.”
